The main types of garage door suitable for automation are as
follows:
Up and Over Garage Doors
The popular term "Up and over" covers both retractable
and canopy doors. When this type of garage door opens, it swings
outwards and then slides upwards into the ceiling of the garage.
Due to the room required to allow this type of door to swing outwards
and upwards, it is not possible to park immediately in front of
the garage. This is something you might need to consider if you
have a particularly short driveway.
Sectional Garage Doors
This type of garage door is made up of several separate horizontally
hinged panels. The entire door rises vertically upwards and then
backwards into the ceiling space. No door frame is required with
this type of garage door which increases the available drive-through
width, and unlike up & over doors, there is no need to park
'away' from the front of the garage.
Roller Garage Doors
Roller garage doors comprise of a single 'curtain' that rolls
up into your garage ceiling. The entire door rises vertically
upwards, and then rolls up on to a spindle in the ceiling space.
Again, no frame is required for this type of garage door, and
due to its vertical roll mechanism, there is no need to park 'away'
from the front of the garage.
